The UN Strategy of the Finnish Foreign Service

This policy defines the key principles, objectives, channels and priorities of Finnish humanitarian assistance.

The Foreign Service has drawn up its own and programme. These documents will guide activities promoting sustainable development both at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland and in the foreign missions abroad. The strategy and programme cover the years from 2013 to 2020.

Commissioned by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the International Peace Institute (IPI) in New York has prepared a report on the election of the non-permanent members at the Security Council in the elections held in October 2012.

The Government’s Development Policy Programme (2012) requires that a human rights-based approach be implemented in all development policy and development cooperation practiced by Finland.

The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reviews and assesses each member’s development cooperation system every four to five years.

These Guidelines provide advice on the preparation of project proposals seeking for concessional credit financing for exports of goods and services from Finland to developing countries.

Alexander Stubb, Finland’s Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, set up a group of young people to evaluate the current and future status of Nordic cooperation and its values and to gauge how young people perceive the efficiency, visibility and accessibility of Nordic cooperation.The group consists of 25 young people from different backgrounds and from different parts of Finland.

This study looks at the quest for ‘Finnish value-added’ (FVA) in development cooperation and assesses how FVA affects aid effectiveness. “Value added” in development is taken to be the attempt to bring into cooperation something extra beyond the monetary volume of aid.

Finland works actively for sustainable development all over the world. This brochure is a collection of articles on Finland’s international development coopeation published in 2011-2012.

The primary goal of Finland’s development cooperation is the reduction of poverty, and Finland is committed to achieving the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

On the 16th of February 2012, the Government adopted Finland's Development Policy Programme, which steers Finland’s development policy and development cooperation for the duration of its term of office.

Focus on the Economy and Technology, the annual publication showcasing Finland and targeted at key international markets, has just been published for the tenth time. This year’s issue highlights Finland’s strengths in design, start-up entrepreneurship and natural resource economy sectors.

The Wider Europe Initiative (WEI) is a bilateral development cooperation programme in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia launched by Finland in 2008. Eastern Europe Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine South Caucasus Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia Central Asia Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The 2012 draft budget for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs administrative branch comes to a total of 1,394.2 million euros.
