Unit for UN Development Issues

The Unit for UN Development and Innovation Issues is responsible for:

• Coordinating the global implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Ministry and promoting policy coherence for sustainable development;
• Coordinating the sustainable development policy of the UN, including the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), and the Second Committee of the General Assembly;
• Cooperation and funding the UN development programmes, funds and initiatives, including UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNWOMEN, UNOPS and Global Pulse;
• Promoting global vaccine solidarity in cooperation with the Vaccine Alliance Gavi;.
• Exerting influence on and providing funding for the digital and innovation policies of the UN and other multilateral actors
• Developing UN activities in Finland and promoting cooperation with UN organisations operating in Finland to utilise Finnish solutions in support of sustainable development;
• Coordinating decisions, practices and cooperation forms related to innovation in development policy within the Ministry, and promoting policy coherence across the central government;
• Advancing the employment of Finnish nationals’ in international organisations within the mandate of the Unit, and managing expert programmes.
