Security Service

The Security Service is responsible for:

• identification, assessment and management of security and safety risks with regard to the operation of the Ministry and its missions abroad, as well as development and monitoring of risk management methods
• direction of general security and safety arrangements in the Foreign Service
• preparation of security management policies covering personnel security, physical security, crime prevention, industrial safety, fire safety and rescue services, civil protection, as well as duties pertaining to preparedness, contingency planning and crisis management assigned by the Chief of Preparedness
• protection and measures against espionage
• security clearances
• cooperation in security and safety issues with Finnish and international authorities and interest groups
• security and safety training and guidance
• acquisitions in the security and safety sector.
