Medications

The possibility of using a Finnish electronic prescription to buy medications in other European countries is being introduced step by step. Estonia is the first country where this was possible.

If you buy a prescription medicine abroad, the medicine you are given may be a different one than the one you get at a pharmacy in Finland. It is therefore important to carefully read the instructions inside the medicine packaging as they provide information on correct dosage, for example.

Find out the restrictions on the import of medicines before the journey, because there are differences between countries as to how much and what medicines can be imported into the country. The rules and restrictions of potential transit countries should also be clarified in advance.

In some situations, for example, an import permit or a certificate issued by an authority may be required. Information on restrictions on the import of medicines can be requested from the customs authorities of the country of destination
