Unit for Consular Assistance

The Unit for Consular Assistance is responsible for:

  • general planning, guidance and supervision concerning consular services
  • the provision of expertise and advice on consular services
  • legal questions and legal assistance relating to consular services
  • EU (European union) cooperation in the field of consular services
  • other consular services unless they fall within the competence of another organisational unit.

Finnish missions abroad are independent administrative authorities providing consular services in accordance with the Finnish Consular Services Act (498/1999). The Unit for Consular Assistance is responsible for the production and development of consular services, as well as for the overall guidance and supervision of the work of the missions in consular affairs.
