New Ambassadors appointed to Croatia, the Council of Europe and Tanzania

The President of the Republic appointed today, 9 February, the following new ambassadors:

Ann-Marie Nyroos Ambassador Ann-Marie Nyroos, head of the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, was appointed Ambassador of the Finnish Embassy in Croatia as of 1 August, 2007. Nyroos came to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1983 and has served in different tasks at the Political Department, Department for External Economic Relations and Department for International Development Cooperation. Before becoming the head of mission at Strasbourg, Nyroos acted as head of the Unit for Human Rights Policy at the Political Department. In addition, Nyroos has served in Finland's foreign missions in Finland's Permanent Mission to the OECD and the Finnish Embassy in Mexico.

Irma Ertman Counsellor Irma Ertman, Director General of the Legal Department, was appointed head of the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg as of 1 September, 2007. Ertman came to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1974 and has served in several positions at the ministry's Legal Department, as Assistant Secretary General of the Finnish-Soviet Commission on Economic Cooperation, as Deputy Director General of the Protocol Department and as Inspector-General of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Ertman has also served at the Consulate General in Leningrad and as Consul General in Gothenburg.

Juhani Toivonen Deputy Director General of the Department for Development Policy, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Juhani Toivonen was appointed Ambassador to the Finnish Embassy in Tanzania as of 1 August 2007. Toivonen, who came to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1980, has served in different tasks related to development cooperation at the Department for International Development Cooperation and Department for Development Policy. In foreign missions, Toivonen has served in the Finnish Embassies in Zambia and Namibia as well as in Mozambique, where he acted as Chargé d'Affaires.
