Unit for Sanctions

The Unit for Sanctions is responsible law: 

  • developing sanctions law;
  • coordinating sanctions;
  • sanctions legislation based on Finland’s international obligations;
  • providing legal statements, advice and expertise on sanctions;
  • the national competent authority’s duties related to international sanctions when the duties fall within the mandate of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs;
  • court matters related to sanctions when the matters fall within the mandate of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs;
  • functions related to the national implementation of sanctions and to the prevention of sanctions circumvention;
  • communication and training on sanctions; and
  • matters related to preventing money laundering, terrorism and the financing of weapons of mass destruction, within the mandate of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, unless the matters fall within the purview of another operating unit.

The Sanctions Unit serves customers in the Sanctions e-Service at palvelu.um.fi. Via the e-Service you can send an inquiry related to sanctions, submit an application for an exemption, report on the implementation of sanctions and report on the circumvention of sanctions or suspected circumvention of sanctions. The service requires identification.
