Seija Toro and Jukka Pietikäinen appointed to Roving Ambassadors
At the presidential session on Thursday 25 August, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Seija Toro and Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Jukka Pietikäinen to serve as Roving Ambassadors, based in Helsinki, starting from 1 September 2016. Toro's title will be Roving Ambassador for Niger and Pietikäinen's Roving Ambassador for Bahama.
Toro is currently Finland's Ambassador to Mozambique. She has previously worked, among other things, as UNICEF Country Director in Costa Rica and Cuba and as the representative of the Nordic countries and Finland in the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank. In the Ministry, she has worked, for example, in the Department for Africa and the Middle East.
Toro holds a Master of Arts degree. She joined the Foreign Ministry in 1989.
Pietikäinen is currently Consul General of the Consulate General of Finland in New York. Pietikäinen has served, among other things, as Finland’s Ambassador to Buenos Aires, Director of the Department for the Americas and Asia in the Foreign Ministry, and Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland to Mexico.
Pietikäinen holds a Master of Social Sciences degree. He joined the Foreign Ministry in 1985.
The President of the Republic also decided to accredit Teemu Turunen, Head of Mission of the Embassy in Buenos Aires, to represent Finland also in Uruguay. Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Arja Makkonen, who will start as Roving Ambassador for Armenia on 1 September, will also represent Finland in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
