Peter Stenlund appointed Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs

Peter StenlundThe President of the Republic appointed today, 22 January, Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Peter Stenlund to the post of Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Internal and External Services) as from 1 March 2010.

Stenlund currently serves as Ambassador at the Finnish Embassy in Oslo, a position he has held since 2006. Prior to this position, Stenlund served as Minister at the Finnish Embassy in Stockholm from 2003 to 2006.

His career at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs started in 1995 as Attaché to the Minister of European Affairs. After that he served as Head of the Office for Nordic Cooperation and a committee chair in the Nordic Council of Ministers. Stenlund has also served as Consulting Counsellor for the EU's Northern Dimension and as the Finnish chair of the Arctic Council in the Division for Eastern Affairs. Prior to his diplomatic career, Stenlund worked as Information Officer and Party Secretary of the Swedish People's Party.
