Anu Laamanen becomes the new Director of the National Security Authority
In its session on 6 October, the Government appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Anu Laamanen to serve as the Director of the National Security Authority. The post will be a fixed-term appointment ending on 31 August 2020.
She has served as the Ambassador of Finland to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Vienna and, among other things, as Deputy Director General and Director in the Political Department. In addition to Vienna, she has held positions in the Diplomatic Service in Geneva and Oslo as well as in Finland’s Permanent Representations to the OSCE and the UN. Laamanen joined the Foreign Ministry in 1986.
In its capacity of the National Security Authority (NSA) in Finland, the Foreign Ministry directs the national NSA activities and, among other things, is responsible for the preparation of international information security agreements. In accordance with the provisions of the Act on International Information Security Obligations (588/2004), the NSA gives guidance to ensure and supervises that international classified information provided to Finland is protected and handled appropriately.
