Finland establishes diplomatic relations with the Bahamas

Finland is going to establish diplomatic ties with the Commonwealth of the Bahamas situated on the Caribbean islands. The President of the Republic decides on establishing the diplomatic relations on Friday 11 November.

Finland recognised the Commonwealth of the Bahamas in 1973. The Bahamas proposed to tie diplomatic relations with Finland in April this year. Establishing diplomatic relations is justified because the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a significant maritime and financial centre as well as a notable tourist attraction. All Nordic countries including Iceland, 17 member states of the EU and the European Commission have diplomatic relations with the Bahamas.
