The Finnish OSCE Chairpersonship organised a conference on 31 July 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act. The event was live-streamed.

The Helsinki+50 Conference paid tribute to the legacy of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) held in Helsinki in 1975 and highlighted the role of civil society in advancing OSCE’s principles and commitments. The Helsinki+50 Fund to support OSCE’s operations was launched at the conference.

The event at Finlandia Hall was opened by Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, and High-Level Key Notes were delivered by President of the Republic Alexander Stubb, OSCE Secretary-General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the conference via remote connection. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the conference in a video message.

The other speakers included Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Batmunkh Battsetseg, Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the UK Stephen Doughty, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia Tanja Fajon, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta Ian Borg, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Igli Hasani, Minister delegate for Europe of France Benjamin Haddad, and top leadership of OSCE. Oleksandra Matviichuk, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties, the Ukrainian human rights organisation and the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and other representatives of civil society and human rights defenders also participated in the conference.

All in all, more than 1,000 people attended the conference. Most of the audience consisted of representatives of civil society, but there were also representatives of OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation, the OSCE and its Parliamentary Assembly, and international organisations among the participants.
