It is wrong to forbid the building of minarets. The systematic violations of human rights in Myanmar are condemnable. The right to privacy must be respected in anti-terrorist activities. Human rights activists must be protected. The President of South Africa should promote the anti-racist theme of the FIFA World Cup. These and many more issues were decided by the Human Rights Council of the United Nations at its 13th regular session in Geneva on 1–26 March.

During a four-week period, discussions and debates were held on dozens of themes ranging from terrorism to the rights of people with disability and from sport to torture. In conjunction with the session, NGOs arranged dozens of events where the victims of human rights violations reminded delegations of reality. The final balance is 30 resolutions and decisions, one third of which were approved by vote.
