Jarmo Viinanen appointed UN Ambassador

The President of the Republic appointed today, 5 December, Jarmo Viinanen, Counsellor of Foreign Affairs, as Director of the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations as of 1 April, 2009.

Jarmo Viinanen Jarmo Viinanen has been Secretary General and Chief of Staff of the Office of the President of the Republic, as well as Chief of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, since 2005. He served as Diplomatic Adviser to the President and Member of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic from 2000 to 2005, and as Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1998 to 2000.

Viinanen’s service in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs began in 1988. He has worked in the Department for External Trade Relations, the Administrative Department and the Political Department of the Ministry. He has held posts at the Finnish diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C., Tel Aviv and Vienna.
