Ari Heikkinen appointed as Roving Ambassador

The President of the Republic appointed today Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Ari Heikkinen as Roving Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia as from 9 November 2007. Roving ambassadors are non-resident envoys based at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki.

Heikkinen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1987.  He has held positions in the Political Department, the Department for External Economic Relations and the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Heikkinen's diplomatic career includes postings to the Finnish Consulate General in Leningrad, the embassies of Tehran, Washington and Moscow and, most recently, since 2004 until now, to London where he served as Minister.
