Alec Aalto to be Finland´s Ambassador in Rome

The President of the Republich has appointed State Secretary Alec Aalto as Finland´s ambassador to Rome as of May 2003. Mr Aalto, who is presently Head of the Government´s Secretariat for EU Affairs, has served in the Prime Minister´s Office since 1995, first as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister and since 1997 as State Secretary EU Affairs at the Prime Minister´s Office. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr Aalto has served as Director General of the Department for Press and Cultural Affairs, Deputy Director General of the Department for Foreign Trade, Finland´s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the UN Organisations in Vienna. Prior to entering the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Mr Aalto has worked as journalist at the Finnish Broadcasting Company, Head of Information for the Government and Vice President for Communications at Neste Corporation.
