Preliminary programme

Chile

Chile is an OECD high-income country with a population of 19.9 million and a GDP of around US$357 billion in 2025. Its economy benefits from strong institutions, open trade and investment policies, a developed financial system, and long-term macroeconomic stability. The EU-Chile Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) eliminates tariffs on 99.9% of EU exports.

Chile is the world's largest copper producer and the third-largest producer of lithium. Its mining project portfolio for 2025-2034 is valued at US$104.5 billion, including 55 projects worth US$30.4 billion currently under environmental review. Demand for solutions that improve productivity, resource efficiency, and tailings management creates opportunities for Finnish companies.

Chile is also modernizing its Armed Forces and increasingly investing in dual-use technologies. This creates opportunities for Finnish companies in aerospace, maritime construction, critical communications, situational awareness, surveillance, command-and-control systems, cybersecurity, and other advanced technologies.

Argentina

Argentina is an upper-middle-income G20 economy with a population of approximately 47 million and a GDP of around US$640 billion. Economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy, reducing inflation, and attracting investment are improving the business environment. As a founding member of MERCOSUR, Argentina provides access to a regional market of over 270 million consumers, while the EU-MERCOSUR Agreement further strengthens trade and investment ties with Europe.

Argentina's Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI) enhances the country's attractiveness by offering long-term legal, tax, customs, and foreign exchange stability for major projects in sectors such as mining, energy, infrastructure, and technology.

Argentina holds some of the world's largest mineral resources and is among the leading countries in lithium potential, alongside significant copper, gold, and silver deposits. As part of the "Lithium Triangle," it has a growing pipeline of mining projects. Mining companies are seeking solutions to improve efficiency, automation, digitalization, water and energy management, and environmental performance, creating opportunities for Finnish providers of advanced and sustainable mining technologies.
