Department for International Trade

The Department for International Trade is responsible for

  • Matters related to the common commercial policy of the European Union
  • Market access questions, trade barriers and trade defence instruments, including questions related to anti-dumping questions
  • Matters related to the World Trade Organization (WTO)
  • Matters related to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and other economic organisations and institutions, unless these fall under the competence of another unit or department; national coordination of OECD affairs
  • Matters related to trade and development and multilateral organisations responsible for them, as well as matters related to responsible business conduct, and trade and sustainable development, unless these fall under the competence of another unit or department
  • Developing and coordinating services related to the promotion of Finnish exports and companies’ access to international markets in the Foreign Service and the Team Finland network
  • Export control of dual-use items, export authorisations, coordination of export control matters and related international cooperation
  • Promoting and protecting Finnish investments
  • International treaties related to trade policy and legislative drafting concerning the responsibilities of the Department
  • Foresight work and analyses related to trade policy
  • Other matters concerning Finland’s trade and economic relations with foreign states, unless these fall under the competence of another unit or department
  • Questions related to the digital economy and technologies.
