Finnish trade policy magazine Kauppapolitiikka shuts down, long live Finnish trade policy
The Finnish trade policy magazine Kauppapolitiikka will publish its final issue in June 2026. It will feature reminiscences by former editors-in-chief from past decades and ask how Finland will develop as part of the global economy in the years ahead.
In her interview with the magazine, Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen emphasises that promoting trade is a collective effort. She believes that ecosystems based on specialist technological expertise are important building blocks for a better future.
Amid geopolitical turmoil, the theme articles highlight an opposite development: the European Union has reached, or is in the process of reaching, agreements with several partners to remove trade barriers. These countries collectively form a market of 2.6 billion people.
The final issue also features former editors-in-chief from past decades reflecting on the major developments of their respective eras.
The Kauppapolitiikka magazine dates back to 1933, when the Ministry for Foreign Affairs began publishing economic and trade updates. Now, after 93 years, the magazine comes to an end as government communications functions will be centralised and transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The magazine’s social media channels will close as well. An archived version of the kauppapolitiikka.fi website will remain available until further notice.
The editorial staff would like to thank readers and all those who have contributed to the magazine over the decades for being part of this journey.
