OSCE Secretary General to visit Finland
Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid in Helsinki on 6 May.
Foreign Minister Valtonen and Secretary General Schmid will discuss topical issues, including the wide-ranging effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on European security and on the OSCE’s activities; the support for Ukraine; and preparations for Finland’s chairpersonship of the OSCE in 2025.
“The added value of the OSCE among international organisations is its regional and inclusive role with a large number of participating States. The OSCE’s potential, and the tools it offers need to be utilised to the maximum to support Ukraine,” says Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.
The 57 participating States of the OSCE comprise all European and Central Asian countries and the United States and Canada. The activities of the OSCE are based on the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, which was signed in 1975, in Helsinki.
During her visit to Helsinki on 6–7 May, Secretary General Schmid will also meet President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and visit Parliament.
