Circular Note, 24 September 2024: Information provided by Traficom on non-disclosure of data

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs present their compliments to the Diplomatic Missions, Consular Posts and International Organizations accredited to Helsinki and have the honour to inform the Missions of the following: 

Traficom has asked the Protocol Services to remind the Missions and their staff about the importance of the right to restrict the disclosure of their personal data.

In principle, Traficom’s registers are public. However, a person has a right to restrict the disclosure of his/her personal data depending on the intended use of data. Therefore it is possible for instance to conceal address information regarding public vehicle inquiries. Traficom recommends expanding the use of non-disclosure of data among personal customers. This can be done by using Traficom’s e-Services (My e-Services –private customers, private entrepreneurs, representatives of the company) or by telephone +358 29 534 5100 (Mon-Fri 8.00-16.15).

Notwithstanding secrecy provisions, Traficom has the right to disclose data to other authorities and parties responsible for statutory duties.

Concealing all personal information requires non-disclosure for personal safety reasons. This is an exceptional measure that restricts the disclosure of information from the Population Information System. Non-disclosure for personal safety reasons may is applied from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). The non-disclosure recorded by DVV will be automatically transferred to the Transport Register maintained by Traficom.
