Finland’s foreign and security policy is founded on value-based realism. Its goal is to safeguard Finland’s independence and territorial integrity, to avoid becoming involved in a military conflict and to improve the security and well-being of the people of Finland.

Foreign Minister Valtonen to launch Finland’s campaign for a seat on the UN Security Council and address the Council
Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit New York on 7–9 June and launch Finland’s campaign for a seat on the UN Security Council on 8 June. Minister Valtonen will also deliver a speech at the UN Security Council’s Ukraine session and lead the Finnish delegation to the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 9 June.
