The report on international economic relations and development cooperation complements the report on foreign and security policy with more detailed trade and development policy measures. The aim is to better support Finland’s commercial and economic interests in developing markets and to increase the economic independence of countries by strengthening the responsibility of developing countries for their own development.

New guide offers tools to address sanctions in public procurement
The ProcurFinland Programme has published a guide to help contracting entities identify and prevent sanctions evasion and circumvention. The guide provides practical advice on taking sanctions into account at different stages of the procurement process. It lists warning signs that contracting entities can use to assess the risk of sanctions evasion and circumvention.
Foreign Minister Valtonen to chair OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris on 4 June 2026
Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris on 4 June 2026 and serve as chair of several sessions. Minister Valtonen will meet with United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer during the meeting.
Finnish food tech attracts interest in Thailand, creating opportunities in rapidly growing market
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs arranged a trade mission to Thailand for innovative Finnish food sector and food technology companies. The visit opened up new opportunities in this rapidly growing market. The aim of the visit was to explore business opportunities, build networks and enhance understanding of Thailand’s food and innovation ecosystem.
Finland to chair OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris – Prime Minister Orpo to meet French President Macron
Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 3 June. Finland will chair the meeting for the first time in more than 40 years. Several ministers from Finland will attend the meeting. In Paris, Prime Minister Orpo will also have a bilateral meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron.
Minister Tavio to visit France
Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will travel to Paris on 1–4 June to meet his French ministerial colleague and representatives of local businesses and industry. After a programme of bilateral meetings, Minister Tavio will attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting as part of a delegation led by Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
