Crisis Management NOW Expo – Programme in English

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland welcomes you to the Crisis Management NOW Expo on 22 May 2024 at Wanha Satama (Pikku Satamakatu 3, Helsinki).

Finland participates actively in military and civilian crisis management within the UN, EU, NATO and the OSCE. Come and listen to panel discussions on peacebuilding and security in regions affected by conflicts and crises. You will have a chance to meet and discuss with our experts from the field on how Finland is contributing to peace and security in the world.

The event is organized together with the Ministries of Interior, Defence, and Justice, other state authorities and agencies, as well as NGOs, development cooperation and humanitarian actors, and companies providing crisis management solutions.

The event is open to everyone and free of charge, no pre-registration is required. The program in English will start at 14:00 hours (13:00 CET) and it will be streamed on the MFA’s YouTube channel. You can find the link to the channel on the event's home page.

Supporting Ukraine through security cooperation and crisis management
 (MFA Finland)

Western partners have provided Ukraine with military aid and security commitments. Support is also channelled through crisis management missions, which train Ukrainian soldiers and help strengthen Ukraine’s civilian security services and rule of law. The panel looks into the pressing issues in crisis management and military assistance for Ukraine and discusses potential future needs.

While UN peace operations remain central tools to facilitate collective security, they face a myriad of challenges. The panel will explore the future prospects the UN peace operations in the light of the growing geopolitical tensions and security challenges the operations are facing. The panelists will also discuss about the need and possibilities to reform the operations, as suggested for example on the UN Secretary General’s policy brief A New Agenda for Peace.
