OHCHR; Promotion of the flagship projects of the Human Rights Strategy of the Finnish Foreign Service; women's rights, gender equality
Description
In accordance with the priorities of the Government's report on Development Policy, the Government's Human Rights Report and the Human Rights Strategy of the Foreign Service of Finland and its Action Plan and the UN strategy of the Foreign Service of Finland, it is proposed to support the establishment and work of a regional gender adviser in the regional office of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Addis Ababa in 2015. The two year project (1st October 2015- 30th September 2017) is supported with an amount of 453.700 euros. The gender adviser’s work will focus on Djibouti and Ethiopia, as well as cooperation with the AU, the UNECA and Regional Economic Communities. Support will also be extended to other countries in the sub-region (Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) as relevant. The work of the gender advisor will focus primarily on the realization of three thematic priorities in accordance with the OHCHR's Management Plan 2014-2017: 1) strengthening the effectiveness of international human rights mechanisms; 2) integrating human rights in development and the economic sphere; 3) early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity.
