Global Partnership for Education, GPE
Description
GPE (Global Partnership for Education) is a World Bank trust fund that provides grants and technical assistance for developing country governments to develop and strengthen their education systems. It is the world’s largest fund to support solely education. GPE provides funding primarily to least developed countries and fragile states, where the need to develop education systems is the highest. GPE's focus is to support equitable and inclusive education systems by advancing access to education for girls and children in vulnerable situations such as children with disabilities. For example, between 2015-2019, GPE has supported 24.8 million schoolchildren in partner countries and 165 000 teachers have received in-service training between 2014-2019. Education is an important priority in Finland's development policy and development cooperation. Finland funded GPE with 6 million Euros between 2013–16 and GPE's Covid-19 window with 2 million Euros in 2020. Finland's support for the 2021-25 replenishment period amounts to 25 million Euros.
