Payment to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), softly earmarked contribution to Healthy and Productive Ecosystems sub-programme
Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s work encompasses assessing global, regional and national environmental conditions and trends, developing international and national environmental instruments and strengthening institutions for the wise management of the environment. UNEP supports the implementation of Finland’s development policy, in particular the priority area IV related to promoting climate sustainability, access to sustainable energy and energy efficiency as well as good environmental governance. The overall objective of the healthy and productive ecosystems subprogramme is to support countries to increasingly manage marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems through an integrated approach that enables them to maintain and restore biodiversity, ecosystems’ long-term functioning and supply of ecosystem goods and services. Payment of 3 million euros is proposed to the UNEP's Healthy and Productive Ecosystems in 2020.
