HIV/Aids is one of the greatest threats to development worldwide, and the epidemic still shows no signs of abating. About 60 million people have died. Most of the estimated 40 million infected people who are still alive live in developing countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. HIV threatens women in particular. The probability of young women becoming infected with HIV is some two and a half times greater that of young men in the same age group.
