Government to fly flags for Ukrainian Independence Day on Thursday 24 August
In honour of Ukrainian Independence Day on Thursday 24 August, the Government will fly the Ukrainian flag at Senate Square and at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ main building Merikasarmi, which will also be illuminated in blue and yellow in the evening.
That same day, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will take part in the UNITED FOR UKRAINE – UNITED FOR PEACE event organised by the Lutheran Parish Union of Helsinki, the Ukrainian Association in Finland and Mothersforpeace.
The Government wants to show its support for and solidarity with Ukraine, which is fighting for its independence and territorial integrity.
Since the start of Russia’s aggression, Finland has found many ways to support Ukraine and its neighbouring countries that are also affected by the war. Since February 2022, Finland has supported Ukraine with more than EUR one billion. Finland’s unwavering support to Ukraine will continue for as long as necessary.
