Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to visit Turkey

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Ankara on 8 February. During his visit, Minister Haavisto will discuss the bilateral relations between Finland and Turkey and topical foreign policy themes.

During the visit, Minister Haavisto will meet Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament Akif Çağatay Kılıç, and representatives of civil society organisations and think tanks. Minister Haavisto will also give a lecture on security policy at Ankara University.

The relations between Finland and Turkey are good and pragmatic. It is also important for Finland that the relationship between the EU and Turkey be further developed in a positive direction from the perspectives of security, trade and the economy alike.

“I am pleased to have an opportunity to discuss our bilateral issues and to hold wider exchange of views on the topical agenda with my Turkish colleague. Dialogue and cooperation are needed to be able to respond to the common challenges,” says Foreign Minister Haavisto.
