Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to visit Stockholm

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Stockholm, Sweden, from 11 to 13 May. He will attend the Road to Vilnius seminar, the Gymnich Informal Meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers and the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum. Minister Haavisto will also have a number of bilateral meetings in Stockholm.

Foreign Minister Haavisto will be one of the keynote speakers at the pre-NATO Summit seminar Road to Vilnius, which is hosted by the Atlantic Council, Germany, Lithuania and Portugal. The event will focus on Euro-Atlantic security and Finnish and Swedish NATO membership. Other speakers include Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström and Lithuania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis

Minister Haavisto will meet EU foreign ministers at the Gymnich informal meeting on 12 May. The foreign ministers will exchange views on EU-China relations and continue their discussion on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. They will also meet Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba as part of the meeting.

Foreign Minister Haavisto will attend the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum on 13 May. The forum is a follow-up on the ministerial forum held in Paris in February 2022. It aims to promote a vision for future that is shared by the EU and the Indo-Pacific region, to deepen cooperation and to implement the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. The forum brings together ministers from the Indo-Pacific region and from the countries chairing the G7 and G20 summits and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as representatives of Indo-Pacific regional organisations. King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria will attend the opening session. 

Minister Haavisto will have a bilateral meeting with Sweden’s Foreign Minister Billström on 11 May. While in Stockholm, Haavisto will also have bilateral meetings with other foreign ministers and with Swedish academics and experts.
