Secretary-General of the OECD Angel Gurría to visit Finland

Secretary-General of the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Angel Gurría will visit Finland from 14 to 15 March.

Secretary-General Angel Gurría will have meetings with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Anne-Mari Virolainen and senior management of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The Secretary-General will give a keynote speech at a seminar celebrating the 50th anniversary of Finland's membership of the OECD, which will be held in Finlandia Hall. In a panel discussion at the seminar, the focus will be in the future and in how Finland can prosper in the 50 years to come.

"The OECD's work is highly respected in Finland. The organisation's peer reviews and policy recommendations have been of vital importance for Finland throughout the 50 years of our membership. Together with the EU, the OECD provides us comparative perspectives and a forum for discussion, that support our own policy preparations," Minister Virolainen says.

"Additionally, the OECD conducts foresight research that is only now rising on the political agenda," Minister Virolainen says.

While in Finland, Secretary-General Gurría will meet Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä, Minister of Social Affairs and Health Pirkko Mattila, Minister of Justice Antti Häkkänen, Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, and Governor of the Bank of Finland Olli Rehn. The Secretary-General will also have discussions with leaders representing Finnish business organisations and research institutes.
