Colombian Foreign Minister to visit Finland

Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Holmes Trujillo will visit Finland on 3–5 March 2019 and meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini.

Finland's Foreign Minister Timo Soini and Colombia's Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo will meet in Helsinki on 5 March to discuss the bilateral relations between Finland and Colombia, the Colombian peace process, the situation in Venezuela, and the reinforcement of the rules-based international system. Colombia is one of Finland's most important trading partners in Latin America. Colombia offers an array of export and cooperation opportunities in many sectors where Finland has special expertise, such as bioeconomy and forestry, education, energy, mining industry and cyber security.

Foreign Minister Trujillo is one of the co-hosts of the First International Symposium on Youth Participation in Peace Processes organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the United Nations together with civil society representatives on 5–6 March. During his visit to Finland, Minister Trujillo will also have a meeting with the parliamentary friendship group for Colombia and meet with Finnish business representatives to discuss the business opportunities in Colombia.

Finland is currently planning to start contributing to the EU and UN Trust Funds that support Colombia's post-conflict peace building efforts.

Foreign Minister Trujillo served as Colombia's Ambassador to Finland, based in Stockholm, in 20042006.
