Vocational education support in Iraq

Description

The Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) implements a project to support TVET development in Iraq in 2019-2020. The project focuses on capacity building of Iraqi authorities. The budget of the project is 500.000 euros, of which 25.000 euros has already been allocated for project planning during the winter 2018-2019. During the planning phase EDUFI jointly with the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Advisory Commission (PMAC) produced a project document for the implementation of the project. The objectives of the project are based on the needs of Iraq and are fully aligned with the ongoing TVET reform project implemented by UNESCO. The project supports the Iraqi authorities in outlining an anticipation system for the TVET sector, as well as developing the Iraqi entrepreneurship education and training. Entrepreneurship will also be supported through establishment of three Centers of Excellence. Capacity building activities will be implemented through various study visits and trainings. Study visits will take place from Iraq to Finland to relevant institutions. Trainings will take place both in Finland and in Iraq, as well as remotely when possible. The project will run for 16-17 months until end of 2020. The department for Africa and the Middle East of the Ministry allocates 475.000 euros for the project.
