Fostering health and protection to vulnerable migrants transiting through Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen (Phase III)

The project managed by the IOM (International Organization for Migration) aims to support and fill the gaps of the national and local actors of Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen in jointly managing migration with a focus on improving health and protection to vulnerable migrants. In each target country the IOM will implement a range of activities such as direct assistance to migrants in need of medical and humanitarian assistance, assistance to national authorities to respond to and manage the health needs of migrants and their host communities in migrant-dense areas, and capacity building of governmental and non-governmental health structures to deliver quality health care services. Priority is given to the most vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, women, victims of gender based violence, and unaccompanied and separated children. In addition, IOM will enhance the regional dialogue and cooperation on migration issues. The project is now in its third phase with previous phases having begun in 2015 and 2018 respectively. Since 2015 migrants, government officials, non-governmental actors and health care practitioners have been assisted and trained on migration and migrant's health issues. Finland's support for the extension of the third phase is 1 500 000 Euros (2023-2024). A total support for the third phase of the project (2020-2024) is 5 000 000 Euros.
