Developing countries; humanitarian aid; core funding to UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in 2023-26
Description
Ministry for Foreign Affairs grants 10,000,000 euros to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) for 2023-26. The annual contribution will be 2,500,000 euros. OCHA is responsible for coordinating global humanitarian action and mobilizing resources to respond to natural disasters and other humanitarian crises. It has a special role in promoting respect of International Humanitarian Law and in humanitarian diplomacy necessary in securing access to the people in need. Global humanitarian needs have doubled in the past two years and humanitarian work is becoming increasingly difficult and costly. In today's complex humanitarian contexts Ocha's role in reforming the humanitarian system, ensuring effective coordination and funding, promoting IHL and working on humanitarian diplomacy is increasingly important. Approximately 95 % of OCHA's budget is based in voluntary contributions.
