UNU WIDER-Institute annual contribution

The objective of the project is to support research on the global development issues. UNU-WIDER conducts multi-disciplinary research and analyses global problems and potential solutions to them. The research programme 2019-23 consists of three themes: economies, states and societies. The subthemes support the realisation of the Agenda 2030. The research has three main audiences, namely the decision-makers in the developing countries, the donor agencies and the research community. The UNU-WIDER budget for 2018 was below 10 million. The funding consists of core contributions of the donor countries, income from the Endowment Fund and project funding. The main donors are Finland, Sweden and Great Britain. The Finnish core contribution to UNU-WIDER is 1,4 million euros. In addition, Finland is obliged to finance the costs of the premises and the director's residence. The project cost 0,5 m€ is reserved for these costs.
