Description

The crisis of the Rohingya refugees continues and the conditions in refugee camps in Bangladeh have deteriorated further as a result of the coronavirus epidemic. It is estimated that over one million people in the region are in need of emergency relief and protection. Sexual violence is widespread. It is unlikely that Rohingya refugees who have fled to Bangladesh will return to Myanmar quickly. UNHCR provides life saving assistance and protection for Rohingya refugees in cooperation with its partners and the authorities of the countries in the region. The activities of the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR focus on protecting the Rohingya refugees and internally displaced persons, providing emergency accommodation and the distribution of emergency relief supplies. In addition, the UNHCR assists refugees in the health, water, sanitation and hygiene sectors together with partner organisations.
