The UN Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) was established in 2006 under the authority of the Secretary-General.The Peacebuilding Fund will support interventions relevant to the peacebuilding process and addressing critical gaps in that process, in particular in areas for which no other funding mechanism is available. Use of Fund resources is intended to have a catalytic effect in helping to create other, more sustained support mechanisms by other actors. The Peacebuilding Fund is an essential part of the UN peacebuilding architecture aimed to strengthen the UN work in conflict prevention and sustaining peace. The Fund supports countries included in the agenda of the Peacebuilding Commission, as well as countries recovering from conflict or considered to be at risk of lapsing or relapsing into conflict. The Peacebuilding Fund has a unique role as a joint instrument for peacebuilding that has facilitated the UN work in difficult situations. The PBF supports peacebuilding in appr. 40 countries recovering from conflict. Finland supported the Fund with 3 million euros in 2020 and 2 million euros in 2021-2022. Finland's contribution in 2023-2025 will be 6 million euros.
