Development cooperation

Cooperation in support of the rule of law

Description

Strengthening inclusive, peaceful and democratic societies is an important part of Finland’s foreign and security policy and one of the priorities of Finland's development policy. The work is based on a broad concept of democracy, where the promotion of human rights, the rule of law and good governance as well as the eradication of corruption are all seen as important and interdependent. The objective of Finland’s rule of law cooperation is to support developing countries in creating and strengthening the foundations of the rule of law, developing the capacity of the rule of law institutions and strengthening legislation. Established in 2021, the purpose of the Rule of Law Center is to bring together Finland's expertise on the rule of law to support developing countries by providing expertise, training and other support as part of the promotion of Finland’s development policy objectives. The Centre’s activities are financed from development cooperation funds.
