Annual payment to the Montreal Protocol Ozone Fund

Description

The Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer was opened for signature in 1987. It contains legally binding agreements that aim to reduce the production, consumption and trade of ozone-depleting substances as well as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which are powerful greenhouse gases. The Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol was established in 1990 and it provides funds to support developing countries in phasing out the use of ozone-depleting substances and HFCs. The Multilateral Ozone Fund is financed by industrialized countries according to the UN's contribution chart and the payment obligation for the countries is binding. The Fifth Extraordinary Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer decided in July 2022 the fundimg for the period of 2021-23. Total sum was agreed to be 540 MUSD. The contribution to be paid by Finland is 987 212 euros per year during 2021-23. Given Finland already paid in 2021 according to the previous levels (1 064 772 euros) this will be taken into account and the remaining sum to be paid is 909 652 euros. The annual payment for Finland in 2022 is 909 652 euros.
