Training of health and education professionals in Somalia
Description
Training of health and education professionals in Somalia –project (MIDA FINNSOM III) supports the development of high-quality public services by appointing experts from the Somali diaspora to support the capacity of local health and education institutions, and recruiting local experts and trainees to work with them. The project will ultimately benefit women, children, people with disabilities and others that benefit from higher-quality education and health services, especially from sexual and reproductive health services. The project targets directly local experts and trainees hired for the project as well as other professionals from ministries, hospitals and educational institutions by improving their professional capacity and competence. The main objective of the project is to strengthen Somalia’s health and education sectors. This will be achieved through two performance targets: 1. Employees in selected public health institutions have better capacity to offer, develop and implement high-quality sexual and reproductive health services and health policies. 2. Employees in selected public education institutions and in remote areas have better capacity to develop and implement high-quality education, curriculum and education policy. In the long run, the project will promote stability in the country and increase citizens’ trust in the state as a provider of inclusive basic services. According to an external evaluation of the previous phase, good results were achieved in both sectors, health and education. The evaluation’s recommendations have been taken into account in the planning of this project, phase III. The project is implemented by the International Office for Migration (IOM) and the total funding for 2022-2025 is EUR 6,400,000.
