Syria crisis; humanitarian aid; UNHCR's regional operation in response to the Syrian crisis
Description
The eight-year-long war in Syria has caused the biggest refugee crisis in the world. About 93 percent of the refugees live in neighboring countries to Syria in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. A major proportion of refugees live under the poverty line, and many lack access to basic services, such as education. A massive return of refugees to Syria in 2019 is unlikely. Together with the UN Development Agency (UNDP), the UNHCR coordinates the 3RP, a regional plan to assist refugees and their host countries.
