Developing countries' participation to international environmental negotiations and conferences

Description

This support enables experts, officials and civil society representatives from developing countries to participate in international environmental meetings, agreement negotiations and expert seminars. Participation of experts and officials from developing countries to international environmental meetings strengthens the capacity of the countries to implement the existing agreements, participate in the follow-up and review procedures, and participate in the development of global environmental governance regime. In order to promote sustainable development, it is essential that developing countries take international environmental agreements into account in their national development strategies. Finland supports the participation of developing country delegates to the Helsinki Chemicals Forum organized in Helsinki and to the World Summit of Students for Climate, organized in Joensuu and Helsinki. The support of Finland for the participation of delegates from developing countries to the conferences organized in Finland is 64 820 euros in year 2019.
