Description
The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) which entered into force in 1996 is a legally binding international agreement combining sustainable land use, environment and development issues. UNCCD is one of the so-called Rio environmental conventions, and it aims to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought, particularly in Africa. Currently, there are 197 state parties to the convention. Finland ratified the Convention in 1995.UNCCD web site: https://www.unccd.int/ The UNCCD extraordinary Conference of the Parties (COP (ES-2)) which met in December 2021 determined each contracting party's contribution to the core budget by applying the United Nations burden-sharing policy. The contributions for the years 2021 and 2022 were determined by this extraordinary COP with a silence procedure. Finland's share of the core budget was determined to be 0.410 percent which means EUR 31 122 in the year 2022.
