GTK/Strengthening the mastering of natural resources, phase 2

The Geological Survey has carried out Finnish-funded development cooperation projects in Central Asian countries since 2009. In Tajikistan the overall objective has been to improve the standards and living conditions for local people by strengthening of the national economy of Tajikistan through sustainable use of mineral resources and creating of a safer environment. The currently planned IKI project “Strengthening the Mastering of Natural Resources for National Welfare in Tajikistan, Phase II” is a follow-up to the first phase of the project, which was carried out in 2014-2019. The project has been supporting the development of natural disaster risk management, a modernized geodata collection and distribution, as well as the monitoring of groundwater resources. Due to the cuts in development cooperation funds, the exit phase of the project, a key element regarding the sustainability of the results, had to be cancelled. The aim now is to continue the work that was begun during the first phase of the project and by doing this, to ensure the sustainability of the results. The budget of the project is EUR 1 000 000, and the duration is three years (2022 - 2024). The project contributes to Finland's development policy priority number IV "Sustainable use of natural resources".
