UNIDIR - Strengthening Weapon and Ammunition Management (WAM) Policies and Frameworks
Description
The aim of the project is to develop national capacity and principles of good governance with regard to national legislation on small arms and their ammunition. Many post-conflict countries have major problems managing their weapons and ammunition. UNIDIR has extensive experience in similar expert work, including from a similar project previously supported by Finland in Somalia. The direct beneficiaries of the project are the authorities of different countries and the indirect beneficiaries are those civilians whose fundamental and human rights are more likely to be realized due to the improved weapon and ammunition management and therefor the general security situation. The Finnish portion of the funding is 200 000 Euros for 2020-2021. The Unit for Arms Control of the Finnish MFA is the focal point of the project.
