Support to Justice Rapid Response for the fight against impunity
Description
Justice Rapid Response strengthens the effectiveness of accountability mechanisms worldwide by providing rapidly available experts to ensure the quality and the timeliness of investigations of mass atrocities. One of the focus areas of JRR is conflict-related SGBV. JRR has deployed experts in over 200 missions worldwide. The JRR roster consists of over 700 experts with a wide range of expertise, over half of them female, and over 40 % from the Global South. Their expertise includes some 50 professional categories ranging from criminal and human rights investigators, legal experts, and forensic specialists, to SGBV investigators and interpreters. JRR’s work in the first ten years has had substantial results. Since 2009, nearly every Commission of Inquiry and Fact-Finding Mission mandated by the UN Human Rights Council has included a JRR - UN Women SGBV investigator. Since its foundation, Finland has financed JRR and been a member of its Executive Board. In 2021-2024, Finland’s financial contribution will be 1,2 million euros in total (300 000 euros from 2021 budget and a total of 900 000 euros of authorizations for payments in 2022-2024) and it will be directed into the International Investigations Deployment Fund.
