Geological Survey of Finland's support to AGS
Description
Afghanistan has potentially very large mineral resources. The exploitation of these resources in the future would increase the economic growth and positively support the development of the society. Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) has strengthen during a five years training programme the capabilities of the Afghanistan Geological Survey (AGS) in the prospecting for ore. A group a AGS geologists received a diverse training in geophysics. The four years future cooperation aims to further improve AGS’s capabilities and technics in the mining sector based on good foundation and relations, which were built during the last five years. The planned budget is 1,2 million Euros. The main goal is to improve relations between the Governance, Private Sector and the Technical University and in the long run to support Cluster Approach between the mentioned entities and also to increase the capabilities of AGS to administrate the mineral resources. This would enable AGS to provide better services for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum.
