Financial support to the Finnish Environment Institute for preparing the Global Sustainable Development Report
Description
To promote the 2030 Agenda is one of Finland's national priorities both domestically, on EU-level and internationally. The central forum for assessing progress on implementation is the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). The HLPF convenes in 2019 both in July and September. A part of the global surveillance and assessment mechanism is the Global Sustainable Development Report, which will be published every fourth year. This report supports especially the developing countries in reaching the goals of the 2030 Agenda. The first report will be published in 2019. The previous UN SG nominated on 31 December 2016 a Panel consisting of 15 experts to prepare the report, among those Professor Eeva Furman from Finland. The nomination of Professor Furman to the Panel in an excellent way strengthens Finland's role as one of the frontrunners in sustainable development. Most part of the writing of the report will take place in 2018, since the draft report will be finalized in the spring of 2019. Professor Furman is responsible for writing one of the most important chapters of the Report: "The role of science-policy -society in sustainable development". Professor Furman needs an assistant in the Finnish Environment Institute for this work. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will finance from development cooperation funds employment costs of the assistant by 75 000 euros.
